Jane Scarpantoni is a classically trained cello player. Prior to joining
Hoboken, New Jersey's Tiny Lights in the mid-'80s, she'd never been much of
a fan of rock-n-roll. Her unique style of playing with Tiny Lights was so
impressive that she soon left to play with other musicians. She's played
with a who's who of alternative music: Richard Barone (ex-Bongos), the Bob
Mould Band, Throwing Muses, R.E.M., Indigo Girls, 10,000 Maniacs, as well
as many others. It was while recording Kirsten Hersh's "Hips and Makers"
that she met Lenny Kaye, which led to her being invited to play on Gone
Again. Other Patti connections include playing on the infamous 10,000
Maniacs' unplugged version of "Because the Night."
